Starting a Successful New Blog in Rapid-Fire Mode (The 10×10 Method)

No Comments 19 July 2010

So here are a few quick tips to Jumpstart a new or current blog that hasn’t got much traction under it yet. The techniques here are very powerful and most highly successful bloggers as well, would rank these high on the list of must do’s.

Some of the best things you can do in your life and business is on paper, very simple. In the mind though, it can prove very hard to actually DO it.  For instance, spending quality time with your kids and family every day. Simple in theory and the benefits are massive. But in action you have work, responsibilities, and other things that make it hard for you to give them 100% focus for hours each day. But you Have To Find a way to do it. Otherwise, problems begin to appear.

These next strategies are simple and essential if you are to build a successful blog. So find a way to do it.

Without further ado….

The 10×10 Method to Blogging

10 Blog Post (1-2 Evergreen, 10 Keywords)

10 Guest Post

10 Blog Post

1- If you are starting a new blog I suggest writing 10 quality blog post. Use Google keyword tool  for high searches to base your 10 post on. You can then add a twist to it after that. So let’s say your blogging about surfboards for example. You want to write  a post called “Surf up in Style With New Killer ” That may trigger few to no response in organic search. Do a little research on the specific surfboard and you’ll find out 35,000 people are searching for that particular surf board O’Neill 7450. (Completely fictional)  So now you could post “O’Neill 7450 Surfboard is Making Waves” or something with the keyword in the front. You get the drift. You can also add other keywords related to the blog post title keyword you picked, and sprinkle 2-3 into the post if you can (optional).

1-2 of these post should be Evergreen. Basically that is a post that people will come back to again and again.  It is a post that retains value and will always be relevant.

10 Guest Post -

This is a powerful method that will get a lot of traffic to your blog. It will build quality relationships and will build your authority.  To get accepted as a guest blogger to another site, your blog needs to be relevant to that site in some way, and offer High value. Basically the steps to do this are to build a relationship with that blogger.

Some tips:

  • Comment regularly on their blog adding value to the post
  • Speak with them on social sites and forums they are a part of
  • Buy a product they have, apply a blog topic they wrote about, put it to use, and leave a great testimonial

They need to have a good idea of who you are before you try to guest post. Leave a good signature pointing a link back to your site. Check out a really good article on Guest Blogging from Glen at ViperChill.com

All this is assuming your site is setup for traffic. You have done the leg work and have created some quality content, you have a opt-in form setup, etc… Do this first before you start driving tons of traffic to your site.

If you open a retail store selling something, you don’t open the doors until the store is complete and you have inventory to offer value to whoever comes in through the doors. You want them to come back, not just a one time deal.  Same thing here. Build your store first.

Ignore these techniques at your own peril.

Starting a Blog and Juggling Everything Else Like a Superstar

2 Comments 14 July 2010

If you are like me. If you are like most people. Starting anything new proves to be a massive challenge and frustration. Call it the unknown. Maybe some internal fear creeps in. You begin to reason against doing anything but what you know. And as you know, all of these are killers to achieve what you really want in life.

For me personally, I have two little boys and a beautiful wife. I have  online and offline businesses. I have many volunteer activities that I am a part of deeply. A LOT of my time goes to these places. And in the mix of these things my work life is last on the list. It is not me. Sacrificing family time for work, or working when I want to go ride my mountain bike with friends doesn’t cut it. There is a time for everything. So why sacrifice? Why miss the precious moments for a few extra bucks?

How to Master the Juggling Act

So how do we balance it all? For you it may be different. Our circumstances and goals, our personalities and makeup are all unique to ourselves. But this is what has worked for me.

  • Schedule it.  I need a daily time set aside to get it done. I like to usually do that when the kids are asleep and I can go to my office and work on my blog or other business. I read a story to the kids, we talk, and usually they are out by 8:30 every night.  I spend a few minutes with my wife, and then it is up to the office.
  • Focus. It is so easy to lose focus and that is a big killer. You have ideas for different blogs pop in your head. You check your email and get sent to new product launches and free videos to watch. You check out your Twitter and Facebook pages. And if you are not careful (Most people aren’t) Your whole work time is wasted and you haven’t done a single productive thing. If you were at a job you would have been fired on your first night.

I like to write down on paper what I want completed before I even open up my computer. Get it done FIRST and then you can spend a few minutes doing the other nonproductive stuff.

  • Consistency.  Set yourself up a regular time frame to do things and stick with it. Blog 1 time a day? Blog 3 times a week? Pick your routine and stick with it. And unless you have already been doing this a while and have a successful blog going, stick with one blog and work on it constantly. Whoever told you that having a successful blog is easy lied. Like everything else it takes work. It takes time.

Mindset is key in all of this. The fundamentals of building a successful blog are not hard. It’s the constant work, pushing through internal barriers, and not getting distracted by all the glitter and glamor out their that make it tough. Recognize why you want to do this.  Keep yourself motivated by either what you could gain from a successful blog, or what you will lose if you do nothing. I know you can do it. You know somewhere deep inside that you can. The next step is doing it.

Let me know any barriers you’ve faced and I will try to help.  See ya on the other side of the wall.

Bootstrap Blogging Series #1

1 Comment 19 May 2010

“How to Create a Successful Blog with a Limited Budget and Limited Time”

This Blog post and series will be very Simple. Doing More With Less. So if your budget is small or your time is limited? Have no fear. It’s time to get to work, leverage what you’ve got, and start building some serious momentum.

Topics we’ll cover:

1- Bootstrapping Focus

2- Drawing Eyes

3- Bootstrap Blogging Strategy

Bonus:  Secret Free Tools of the Trade

Bootstrapping Focus

This is the make it or break it of the whole technique guys and gals. Focus. Driven Focus.  And for the 1st part of this Bootstrap Blogging post, were going to talk all about:  Selective focus.

To harness the power of selective focus, you have to find out where you are right now.  For ex: If you are just starting up your blog and don’t even have a domain name yet, why would you be checking out the new launch on how to get traffic? For some reason we are compelled to want to learn it ALL at once. e.g. Traffic, web design, social media, podcasting, building list, blah and blah, all before we have even taken the first step.

It is Lame and it’s not the Bootstrap Bloggers way. It is a habit we must break.

So let’s look at the technique to do this shall we?!

Put simple, learn what you need  in the moment. If you are not sure what you want to start a blog about? That should be your only focus. Nothing else is important. Give yourself a deadline and get it done.

Google Calendars is a great tool to use to organize yourself and your business.

Here is a pretty good overview of what you need to do and a sample screenshot of Google Calendars

Google Calandar

1-Niche ( How will I be unique, How will I make money? Ads? Selling products? Build a List? Get Published? Build Personal Brand? etc…)
Select Niche and Strategy 1 day

2- Blog design and Layout- Check out cool blogs you like, google “top free wordpress themes”, check out my faves at WooThemes and Mojo Themes or check out a good list of freeby themes at SaveDelete .

Select design, download, create a cool domain, buy at NameCheap (p.s. Stay clear of GoDaddy! Personal opinion of myself and others for many reasons. Trust me!) Setup hosting at BlueHost. 3-days

3- Setup blog yourself or outsource for cheap (50.00 –75.00) Free tutorials abroad online. Cheap logos at LogoNerds, E-book covers, digital covers at E-Covers 2 days

4- Create first 10 Blog post before releasing blog to public, have an opt-in creative with a compelling bonus setup in place 1-2 blog post a day.

5- Sign up for social media sites only- Don’t waste time there yet. Just see if your domain is available. e.g. GhettoSnorkels.com, twitter.ghettosnorkels.com , facebook.ghettosnorkels.com etc… If you already have a presence in these spots under your name, then don’t worry about it.

6- Marketing Time!!!- Begin participating  relevant forums (find in google search and yahoo) – Give great content with a link back to post’s in your site.

Begin to get a pulse on your market – Problems, desires, etc…Interact in twitter, facebook etc…

Leave interactive comments on influential blogs, or blogs you enjoy related to your blog. Do this often and build meaningful relationships.

Put out great content 3-7 times a week.

Guest post on other blogs.

Rinse repeat. Rinse repeat. Rinse repeat.

It take focus and organization to get this all done. Use a tool like Google Calendar’s or 37Signals Basecamp to stay on top. Focus on your task at hand and handle other stuff as it comes. Learn what you NEED in the moment. You can call it using In The Moment Knowledge. That can be very profound for your life.

Drawing Eyes

Be unique. Do something different and extraordinary that no one else is doing in your industry. Use cool pictures, produce great video, create unique articles. You need to stand out. If you do the aforementioned strategy, people will begin to come to your blog. You want them to Want to come back, and to add you to there RSS Feeds. You want them to feel compelled to comment on your posts. Be Yourself and always make it original with your own flare.

If you do something really crazy, submit a news style article to PRWEB and who knows, you may end up getting a lot of national media exposure.  It happens every day!!

Bootstrap Blogging Strategy

It would seem that we went over the strategy above and we really did. But I wanted to finish this article off with a quick thought on internal strategy which is much more important. It is key.

You are doing this stuff for a reason right?  Maybe to create a better life for yourself and your loved ones. To create a sustainable side business. To do something everyday that you really enjoy.

I care about your success. I know the frustrating feeling of wanting to get an online business going, and then going to the computer, and instead of getting things done, you start following the gurus big launches, buying products, surfing social sites, checking email repeatedly, all in a crazy spiral!! And at the end of the night going to bed frustrated and depressed. I have been there. I always told myself that I needed more discipline.

A revelation to myself was when I realized I didn’t need discipline really. I knew I was a hard worker. I worked my butt off day in and out! For someone to call me lazy for not getting things done at night felt like a slap in the face.

The Problem wasn’t discipline. It was habit.

It was a habit to work 7-5. It was a habit to get out of bed and make coffee without thinkng about it. It took zero discipline. Working online productively can be the same way!

All I ask is for 30 days of your life to get yourself setup online for success. 1 month is all it takes to make it a Habit. Force yourself to avoid your email and following the big launches. Unsubscribe from all of them if that is what it takes. You can always subscribe back later;)

Be committed: Think of what can happen if you get all this done. Think of the benefits. And think what will happen if you don’t.

I am Here. You have Support. You are not alone. Follow the Bootstrap Method. Get Focused. Get Started today!!

How to Create A Viral Blog Post Every Time

7 Comments 15 May 2010

Confession from an Average Blogger: ( Hey pal. I have had a blog up for some time now. I blog all the time, and I am currently reading up on some tactics to add some Insane traffic. I know my content  inside and out, but I never get comments, I get little to no traffic and things don’t seem to be getting any better. If you can’t help me O Wonderful One, I think I will get into the Avon business with my great grandmother! Please Help!! – Sincerely, Bob)

Are You Bob???

O.k. I admit that Bob is not real. But the scenario is all too common wouldn’t you agree. We have all probably heard  a common definition of what Insanity is right?  Doing the same things over and over again and expecting the same results. Well, it is a time for a change my friends! Following are 7 different strategies that will skyrocket your traffic, comments, and most importantly self moral if you will just implement a few of them. Let me know in the comments what you plan on implementing right away, but please address me as Ol Wonderful One like Bob ;)

#1 Are you a Gigli Blogger?

Have you seen the movie Gigli, or Catwoman (sorry Halle), or Battlefield Earth?  If you have I am sorry you wasted your time.  Considerable amounts of time and energy went into creating these movies. They even created a lot of buzz and media. But the content Sucked!! The movies were Horrible. All those eyes were let down in a big way and they didn’t think a second thought about them.

What’s the point for us Bloggers? Rate each and every post, video, article, etc… on a scale from 1-10. If you don’t feel it is a ten (ten being best) then it is probably second rate. You either need to tweak it or scrap it. Otherwise it will blend with the rest of the crap out there. I am not saying over analyze everything and be a perfectionist. I probably have typos and weirdly written sentences and made up words all over the place. But try to shoot for great content.

Magnetic Content that will draw people back and back to check out your stuff with Anticipation.

#2 Have Unique and Creative Blog Posts

Maybe you don’t feel your Niche has room for Creativity or being Unique. But I would say you are Dead Wrong, and I would say it is essential to your success. There is an ideabox in all of us and we need to constantly use it.

Let’s look at a few niches we can use as examples to be unique and creative, as well as a few other tricks.

Weight Loss:

Boring Blog Title: How to Get Ripped  Abs in No Time Flat”

Not Boring: ” Ginsu Asked to Examine my Abs for Ideas to Make Sharper Knives”
Not really, but heres 7  Techniques You can use right now to get your abs super cut!!

Or you could run a contest where whoever is the most ripped from following your blog that you will give the winner a set of steak knives and send them to a 3 day chef class. You can submit an article to some PR sites and maybe get some media from major sites.

I am just shooting from the head so these may be silly, but you get the point right. Be creative and Think Big.  Many blogs are getting major publicity and yours can too!!

Let’s try one more…

Let’s say that you have a Blog that teaches people how to sing, and you sell a course on the site as well.

Instead of posting boring success stories, or how to hit the perfect middle voice, why not take on a little chubby kid, or a skinny nerd (somebody unlikely looking to sing great) whose voice doesn’t match there face, and record them singing something great and current. “Small Fat Kid Sings Poker Face Better Than Lady Gaga” or “Skinny Nerd sings Ave Maria and Makes Susan Boyle Cry”  send out a media blast, post it on your site and on video sites (more on this in a moment) and watch it go viral!!

Post like this can change your life in a second and give you a successful blog that you could only dream of. So think big, be your crazy self, and reap the rewards from not trying to be like everybody else.

The Viral Network – #3-6

The following strategies are batched together because they need to work together.  This is an essential blogging strategy that should be the focus in my opinion of your marketing strategy for maximum long term, consistent traffic and relationship building.

#3 Flagship Content on Blog

What is your chosen Media in which you excel? Writing?  Video?  Audio Podcasts?  Whatever you excel in and you are passionate about, make that the focus of your blog post on your site. Make that your fantastic #10 two-thumbs up content.

And then continue on…

This is where the power begins:

#4  Secondary Talent

O.K. So let’s assume that you like to do Video. That’s what you excel at. So next you would take your video of course upload it to video sites all over the web as well as on your blog. And then take the video and get it transcribed into a written post. You can edit it to make sure it flows well or whatever pleases you. You can have this done very cheap and easily.

#5 Be Heard (Podcast)

The power of ITunes is unbelievable and is still pretty new territory in the Podcast arena. Have Your Video edited to Mp3, set up a podcast, and have all your post regular put up in podcast form on ITunes. This is Powerful.

#6 Social Media

Post to all the big social sites that you can especially Facebook, Twitter, Linked In. Go to Blogs you follow and leave relevant comments as usual, but link back to that particular article on your main sites.

Hint: Y0u can use Flickr which many people dismiss and have viral photos with links back to your site.

All this may seem like a lot. It is work, but in reality when it is all set up, it takes very little time, and you can outsource almost all of it for pennies on the dollar.

These strategies can build you a highly successful blog if you use them consistently and strategically.

#7 Action! Action! Action! Will only 1 of 10 of you Do Something?

Statistics say only maybe one out of ten of you will do anything at all past this point. And that would really be sad. This stuff can change your life if your committed like I am and many other successful people. But I like to believe the people that will be reading this will be action takers. That they will ask for help from me and others to get over any sticking points. Be committed. Find a motivator to get ya going and don’t waste this day doing something that doesn’t put you closer towards your Destiny!!
